Hello my loves!! And (almost) welcome to the Chinese New Year!
How are we celebrating / observing this transition? I've been cleaning, clearing and finalising all the very many things to be ready for tomorrow's New Year Party in the Studio. I've been busy being "that white lady" in the Asian grocery stores near me stocking up on red envelopes and crysthanthemum tea (that is the hardest word to spell!)
I have locked Jess Hewett from Nuwa Natural Health in for hopefully a late Feb Stab Club class. She was the woman I mentioned in our Xmas chat. Can I have your preferences please. Friday afternoon? We could also do a week day morning? Monday Tuesday Thursday? Trying a few other options instead of our usual late nights (for us QLDer's!) Let me know below!
It was so very lovely to see many of you at the Peri Class in January. Let us all know in the comments how you're going for the start of the year. Chat soon

Hello Glorious Stabbers!
What a few months it's been since I have been in here.
Firstly deepest apologies! And also there is ALOT I've learnt that I can share with you.
I've taken over my clinic as a solo biz owner after my business partner left the clinic in June and we navigated her working in the clinic until October. If you have any questions about navigating accountants, partnership agreements, hiring a VA, bank accounts, updating branding, undergoing mentoring for said branding, and every tiny piece of minutia required to execute on these things ... it's been a time. Somewhere in there I also turned 50! Yikes! But this is it isn't it?! It's never only a business, it's our personal expression, our passion and how it all fits together with the season of life we're in!
I cannot wait to hear how you've all been travelling!
This Friday 5th of December and any Thursday morning is wonderful for a Stabby Xmas Catch up. I feel that trying to do anything over the weekend is nuts! :) Let's find an hour in amongst our clinic times to wave hello at each other.
Pop me on two times speed and let me tell you more below x
I will be adding this Elemental PDF in the monthly classes but for now enjoy it here :) x

In other news, @Mandy Gratzer has announced the next Acu Biz Conference in Sept 2026. There are just a hand full of VIP early bird spots left. She has created an incredible key note speaker line up AND I am joining the speaker team next year too! So very excited for this.
Celebrating Stab Club member @Harmony Robinson-Stagg who has just released her first book!!! Please jump on over to her profile and check it out.
Jump into the comments here with your wins, hot takes or shares. Hope to see you next Friday x KK
I'll pop this here as it's also in the weekly Q and A thread.

Popping @Mandy Gratzer 's Question in here and will probably pop it in the Peri Thread also .
The primary symptom is fluid retention in feet, ankles, hands.
Periods are spread out, missing every 2nd or 3rd so just a few periods per year, and fluid retention is relieved for a period. I have been able to shift the fluid with acu but it keeps returning.
T: wide pale puffy swollen
P: deep slow
I've been using kid & sp yang tonic points but would love to hear your thoughts on how you'd approach it.
This is actually a pretty common experience in my Peri ladies and I know myself when I'm in a phase of missing periods the fluid on my belly can feel like it's stacking up.
I'm curious if she is often also constipated or digestion is sluggish and then when she has a period water metabolism goes back to normal? Because I would add points and foods possibly to support digestion/ large intestine water metabolism function if that's the case.
I also think that this can also be a symptom that will be ongoing but eventually the body will work it out. It's just about helping the body work out the new normal which will eventually stick so I dont know that it's a bad sign that it comes back as it does go away with your current treatment ... Now that isn't very helpful for the woman who feels like she's a blow fish puffing up for half the year .... but with ongoing maintenance sessions it will eventually go.
You could also use the China Med Menopause 2 formulae which is for draining dampness from Kid Qi and Spleen Qi Xu it is however also working to move Liver Qi Stag (where it's present with out heat) if she's more kidney yang xu that might not be appropriate.
There is also the use of dry skin brushing and infrared saunas depending again on how yang xu she is. I know this isnt strictly TCM but I've found it very helpful to get the lymph moving ... which is linked obvs with hormone clearance as well.
What else do we think brains trust?
I'm popping this in as many places as possible so you might get the notification. We're jumping into this topic this afternoon. I will go through the slide in the webinar but this is really to go deeper into your cases and any topics that spoke to you.

Popping this in here as I had a tidy up in the monthly class thread :)
Harmony was asking about CPD.
Hi Harmony! This is a great place to create some CPD hours.
This Club hasn't been specifically approved by ATMS or other bodies just yet. They are usually (understandably) quite rigorous in their process and want exact details of outcomes to be discussed and copies of the content etc. This is usually also quite an expensive process. Which again is worthwhile in many situations, but if you include your hours of study in here in your own reporting in my experience it's never questioned.
For example my trip last year to Japan we all kept notes on our discussions and time in clinics and logged this in our records and with our respective memberships (ANTA ACCMA) and this is seen as valid.
I was audited by AHPRA in the early days (maybe 2014 ish) and my personal records of workshops that I had logged with ANTA which included recognised workshops and personal meetings with other Acu's and my own learning online etc was happily accepted.
This is a great topic for discussion! I will add my AHPRA registration number to the welcome details and any other qualifying documents you might need.
Hey Stabbers! I've updated the information for the next two months Classes in the Monthly Classes thread.
Also an additional piece in the Peri Class thread. This article here is helpful if you're not sure about how to set your notifications.
Wondering how we're all going with the end of financial year? What are we stocking up on? I'm about to do a bulk needle order and I've been on the hunt for some more diverse places to order the Nin Jiom Cough syrup from... any suggestions?
Who's booked their tax appointment? Am I alone in loving catching up with my accountant? 😆
Hello team!
@Amanda Graham I thought I might respond to your question here before we dive into the Peri Course as a whole.
We had a conversation about frozen shoulder and Peri age clients and what the hell to do with them to support them but also sort the frozen shoulder which can be super tricky and stubborn.
I saw this study yesterday which prompted me to pop this in as a separate conversation https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39947440/
This is looking at the role of oestrogen in experiences of frozen shoulder in women in Peri- Menopause age bracket.
Whilst Oestrogen therapy or MHT might be a treatment option or a bonus helpful by product for women already thinking about MHT/HRT From a TCM perspective this relates to Liver & Kidney Yin Xu with heat rising lodging in the upper jiao and most certainly drying out the sinews and tendons creating inflammation.
One of the reasons Frozen shoulder can be so stubborn is that there may have been an external trigger for the "injury" such as straining at the gym or gardening or other manual labour but it is almost always as a by product of internal consumption of fluids and yin through over work/ stress/ life etc (I'm sure you'll all relate :) )
Depending on your style of treatment local shoulder points are helpful I love throwing Ondan (needle head moxa) at almost everything :) Large Intestine 15 San Jiao 14 for example. You might use distal points via Tan Balance or Tung. But to treat the root cause at the same time it's necessary to address the clients constitutional presentation. So you might find it's clear cut yin xu or there might be Liver Blood Xu , the heat might also be present in the stomach with heart burn or anxiety or a number of other correlations. Happy to chat cases in this thread and when we run through the Peri Class.
I also had a client present in student clinic recently with "Cortisol Tendinopathy" (this link is randomly chosen but breaks it down nicely) https://www.jomartinosteopathy.com.au/resources/2025/3/8/chronic-raised-cortisol-and-connective-tissue-breakdown-understanding-the-link#:~:text=Tendons%20and%20ligaments%20rely%20on,Stress%20Management%20Techniques
which relates to the presence of high cortisol levels in people under high stress and how it effects the breakdown of collagen and joint integrity. Again from our perspective this is about the exhaustion of the Kidney energy (and adrenals) so Kidney Yin and Yang. I'm sure we can all think of a very stressed out client that has come in with tight and inflamed shoulders, whether it was technically frozen shoulder or not.
Lots here to chat about!
KK
Thanks Keri, this is most helpful. I also liked the Cortisol Tendinopathy article a lot - it helps to explain the role of stress in joint pain (and not just frozen shoulder)...such a common perimenopause symptom!
So common, and I think it's having a bit of moment due to the sheer number of women in this season now. I even had NatGeo post pop up in my Insta feed today being at "risk of frozen shoulder" made it sound like it was going to jump out from behind the desk at me 😆
Hello lovelies! As I have mentioned in a few places I will be running a bonus class referencing the Peri Webinar when you've had a chance to watch some / all of it. There's been a few clinical questions that I would love to go into in more detail.
My plan is to go through the webinar slides as a reference point, answering questions you have regarding your own clients and having the freedom to go down rabbit holes of our choosing :)
I would love to run this class during the day time! :) Please let me know when would suit most of you. I can do Mondays all day, Friday afternoons or any time on a weekend. I'm thinking late May / early June. @Melinda McDonald I hope you don't mind me tagging you here as I haven't had a chance to be in touch with you and would love for you to be able to attend this also.
Chat soon ladies x
Also Rachel, if you don't see this in time we will DEF reschedule. Ha! It's a wild ride trying to get the timing to work :)
This is exciting ladies!! @Jennifer Coleman @Rachel Thornton @Amanda Graham I'll put a post up in the monthly classes but let's lock in for Next Monday 9th. I didn't think next week would work being a public holiday. Jess is down with a virus, she'll definitely be in ,in the next month, but on the 9th we'll have a New Year debrief (pleeeeease can we be done with the shedding! 🤣🫠) A chat on herbs, supplements and a Peri- Class Q and A . Really excited to be back in conversation with you all xx
